Chelsea have been linked with a move for CSKA Moscow and Russia ace Aleksandr Golovin over the last few days, and we recently made the case for him being the perfect replacement for Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard has struggled over the last year or two, and whilst he hasn’t been the worst player at Stamford Bridge, he’s certainly not dominating games like he used to. At 31-years-old, it’s important that the Blues consider a succession plan, and it appears as though a lot of fans think that Golovin should be it.
We recently asked Chelsea fans about the prospect of Aleksandr Golovin joining the club and whether he’d be someone that could replace Cesc Fabregas, or if he’s just not good enough for the club.
In response, a whopping 94% of polled fans are on the side of the Russian, with just 6% of fans viewing him as surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
Of course, given his fine form in Russia, that’s no surprise. Golovin is currently riding a wave of excitement and form, and the further Russia go in the tournament this summer, the more attention he is going to receive. Coupled with Fabregas’ poor recent form, and this seems like the perfect decision from Chelsea.
Whether a deal goes through remains to be seen, and it’s still unclear as to whether Chelsea view him as a Fabregas replacement at all, but it’s fair to say that a move for him would be popular among fans.
