The Arsenal fans have been drowning their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern over the course of the last two days after they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest.
As time moves on and football evolves, every manager needs to undergo a period of evolution and adaptation themselves, but it appears that Arsene Wenger has struggled to change his managerial style to suit the demands of the modern game. Arsenal’s departure from the FA Cup on Sunday was the first time Wenger had been knocked out at the third round stage in his entire Arsenal career – a fact which is a testament to his success at the club, but is also a concerning sign that the Frenchman is well past his sell by date.
His recent career is becoming a series of firsts for all the wrong reasons, as last season he also failed to qualify for the Champions League for the very first time in his Arsenal career.
The resident Gunners propping up the bar in the tavern have been bemoaning their side’s failure to qualify for the next round of the FA Cup this week, but the majority of supporters are not bemoaning Arsenal’s next potential move in the transfer market.
According to Spanish media outlet Cadena Ser (Via Metro), Valencia are closing in on the signing of Francis Coquelin for a fee in the region of £12 million – much to the delight of plenty of Arsenal supporters.
Although a handful of supporters are arguing that Coquelin has performed admirably within the classic Makelele role during his time in North-London, the majority of supporters will be happy to see the back of him judging by the reaction on Twitter.
Here’s what the Arsenal fans had to say about rumours linking Francis Coquelin with a move away from The Emirates…
10m for Coquelin is amazing lol, he’s nothing compared to even Sissoko

Who cares? Is it your money? No, so take the money, he’s terrible.

Coq at any price is a good deal.

Coquelin isn't even worth £2.5m if we are being honest.

I'd take 10 quid for him if it means he's off our books

Coquelin can't pass. Lacks pace. Can't hold a press from the opposition. Sell him. Don't care the price.
