Newcastle's summer has been one of penny-pinching deals within an incredibly tight self-imposed budget.

Mike Ashley has always been known for his unwillingness to spend heavily on Newcastle's squad. Indeed, this summer Ashley informed Rafa Benitez that the club would have to sell before it could bring in any new players and so far have only spent £7.2 million on two transfers, Martin Dubravka and Fabian Schar.

Aside from the goalkeeper and defender, Mike Ashley has only managed to bring in Ki Sung-yeung on a free transfer and Kenedy on loan. There may be some more potential deals still yet to come but it's quite probable that they won't be for big money. Furthermore, there's always the potential that the club could lose players and according to the Chronicle, Jamaal Lascelles is a target for Leicester City.

If Harry Maguire leaves Leicester the Foxes will turn to Lascelles as his replacement although Newcastle remain adamant that they will keep him, and reject the £35 million fee reported.

The Breakdown

With only 10 days left in the transfer market, it would seem unlikely that the club will sell off it's club captain and prize asset so late in the window. The former Nottingham Forest defender has become one of the better players in the league and it's unlikely that the club will allow him to go unless a sizeable fee is offered.

West Ham have had a bid rejected for the Newcastle skipper already and although Leicester are interested, a deal for Harry Maguire must go through first.

It doesn't look like this deal will happen and Rafa Benitez must stop Mike Ashley from even contemplating it.
