There is drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it has been claimed by Sky Sports that Anderlecht’s Senegalese international Cheikhou Kouyate could well be on his way to Arsenal.
The player looks set to leave Belgium at the end of the season and has admitted that there could be appeal in a move to the Premier League. Arsene Wenger is keen to cast his eye on defensive reinforcements this summer and the commanding 23-year-old is reportedly keen on earning a move to North London.
The centre half equally adept in defensive midfield himself claimed that: “I like Arsenal because they play good football. There have been enquiries before, but nothing happened.
“I do not want to say where I am going, but this will be my last season with Anderlecht.
“Until I leave, I will continue to give 100 per cent.”
Wenger is not the only one looking at the young player however and a host of top clubs are keeping track of Kouyate’s situation in Brussels.
Arsenal could well be handed a boost in their race for a top four place with rivals Spurs facing a growing injury list with Aaron Lennon, William Gallas and Gareth Bale all set for scans on injuries picked up during the Europa League draw with Basel yesterday evening.
