Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been stunned in silence with developments concerning one particular player, with the fans sipping their pints now openly admitting they’re growing increasingly concerned.
The Evening Standard reports Roma are eyeing a swoop for Chelsea defender Gary Cahill before the close of the transfer window, amid speculation that the England international wants to leave Stamford Bridge.
Cahill, who signed a new deal just eight-weeks ago, is unsettled at Stamford Bridge due to a lack of playing time and is concerned that it could prove detrimental to his chances of making Roy Hodgson’s squad for the European Championships.
Chelsea are unlikely to sell, unless they receive a massive offer, with Cahill crucial to the squad as his exit would leave just John Terry and Kurt Zouma as the central-defensive options at the club.
An exit in the summer for Cahill is much more likely but that could come too late for his England chances, as he faces stiff competition from the likes of Chris Smalling and John Stones for a starting berth in France.
Chelsea fans, would you accept Cahill’s departure this month? Let us know in the comments below!
