Newcastle United fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern haven’t had much to cheer this season, and John Cross of the Daily Mirror has some more bad news for them regarding the future of their first choice goalkeeper.
It is reported that Italian giants AC Milan have their sights set on signing Dutchman Tim Krul in the summer, for a fee believed to be in the region of £12 million.
Krul has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury, and is due to have surgery next week, however this has not deterred the Rossoneri’s interest in the Dutch international, who have been scouring Europe for a new goalkeeper for quite some time.
The 25-year-old is under contract with the Magpies until 2017, who certainly do not want to sell their first choice goalkeeper.
Milan have also touted QPR’s Julio Cesar as a possible signing, but Krul is the number one target for the right price as his wage demans are set to be considerably lower than the Brazilians.
Cesar will be surplus to requiremtnes at Loftus Road should QPR be relegated, but his £70,000-a-week wages look set to be a major stumbling block.
Milan have Christian Abbiati as their current first choice, but Krul would likely take over that role should the Magpies agree to sell.
