The Football Transfer Tavern is a hive of activity this evening with most supporters discussing their respective sides’ performances over the weekend.
However Liverpool supporters’ attention has been distracted by the latest reports emerging from Spain over the possible return of a legend to Anfield.
talkSPORT indicate that Juventus will look to sign Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso on a free transfer next summer and could be prepared to rival Liverpool for the midfielder’s signature.
The 32-year-old, who departed Anfield for the Bernabeu in 2009, has reached the final year of his contract at the La Liga club and current talks have hit the buffers over a possible extension with both parties reportedly considering the different options.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have reinforced their midfield ranks during the summer with the likes of Asier Illarramendi and Casemiro and that could see the Spanish international leaving next June as he looks to end his career playing at the highest level and on a regular basis.
Juventus are now preparing a mega bucks deal to bring Alonso to Italy but Reds supporters in the tavern remain hopeful that Brendan Rodgers could plot an emotional reunion for the classy midfielder at Anfield as they have always thought would happen.
However the Italian side could even be prepared to pay a cash sum to see Alonso join them in January rather than on a free transfer next summer which could force the issue on the Reds in the New Year.
Should Liverpool forget about signing heir former midfielder or challenge Juventus? Let us know your thoughts below.
