It’s been rather quiet in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening but some heated discussion has broken out between Arsenal supporters following the latest reports from talkSPORT.
The publication indicates that Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen could be offered a route out of Arsenal by Inter Milan who are lining up a January swoop for the out of favour Gunners defender.
The Belgian international has struggled for game time this term as Arsene Wenger sticks with his favoured defensive partnership of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny and only last week he suggested that if this continued, he would have to consider his future in North London.
Vermaelen is keen to secure regular playing time ahead of his country’s World Cup campaign in Brazil and he is also set to enter the final 18 months of his current deal at the Emirates Stadium in January.
The Serie A club are hoping to strengthen their defence after conceding six goals in their last two league matches and manager Walter Mazzarri is reportedly watching the former Ajax defender with a view to possible move when the window opens in the New Year.
Inter were recently the subject of a takeover by Indonesian billionaire Erick Thohir and many in the tavern believe they could undertake a spending spree in January with Vermaelen, who joined the Gunners in 2009, firmly on their wishlist.
