Serie A giants plan to save Newcastle United ace’s career?

Hatem Ben ArfaIt is a running joke in the Football Transfer Tavern that Newcastle United only sign French players.

But now it seems that the Toon Army may lose one of their favourite French acquisitions.

According to reports in the Daily Star, AC Milan boss Filippo Inzaghi is looking for a talented left-footed winger this summer and has targeted Magpies star Hatem Ben Arfa.

It is suggested that the Italian club could be prepared to offer £12 million for the Frenchman’s services – a figure likely to tempt Mike Ashley and co.

The 27-year old has fallen way down Alan Pardew’s pecking order on the back of his four-year stay at St. James’ Park.

The winger, who signed from Marseille in 2010, has made 76 appearances for Newcastle but it seems he may well have made his last.

However the club may be able to start a bidding frenzy after admitting their desire to sell Ben Arfa has with a host of European clubs, including Ben Arfa’s former side Marseille, all interested.

The Magpies do have a ready-made replacement in fellow Frenchman Emmanuel Riviere who signed from Monaco earlier in the transfer window.
