Manchester United supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are preparing to watch their side in Champions League action against Shakhtar Donetsk tonight.
This is when worrying news emerges that they may struggle to keep hold of star defender Nemanja Vidic.
talkSPORT suggest that David Moyes faces a battle to tie the Serbian down to a new deal at the club with strong interest from Serie A giants AC Milan.
The impressive Serbian centre back, who has collected five Premier League titles and a Champions League during his stunning seven year spell at Old Trafford, sees his contract expire at the end of the season.
Moyes has already confirmed that he hopes to keep hold of the 31-year-old, saying recently: “He is a really top centre half. The best I have worked with, that’s for sure.”
But, with Vidic yet to sign an extension, he will be free to speak to interest parties in the New Year with the San Siro side desperate to add an experienced leader to their ranks.
Both first choice centre backs at Old Trafford have contracts that expire in the summer and it could be the case that Moyes uses this as an opportunity to freshen up the defence he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson.
Athough the general view from punters in the tavern is that both Vidic and Rio Ferdinand remain their best defensive partnership and should be offered new contracts as Moyes look to bring success to Old Trafford.
Should the Old Trafford club do everything possible to keep hold of the Serbian defender or is it time to look for a younger alternative? Let us know your thoughts below.
