Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have had plenty to concern themselves regarding potential arrivals in recent days.
However, The Telegraph reckons one long serving star could soon be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium.
The publication reckons Italian giants Fiorentina are preparing a £3 million bid for Gunners midfielder Mikel Arteta, who has just one year remaining on his current contract.
Arteta is set to face a struggle to keep his place in the Gunners’ first eleven this season with Arsene Wenger keen to add a new defensive midfield star to his ranks.
Wenger is set to tie up the signings of Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy shortly and a holding midfielder is next on his shopping list.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender, Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira and Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin are all possible targets, and a move for any would see Arteta deemed surplus to requirements at the Emirates.
The 32-year-old is the Gunners’ vice captain, and his influence on and off the pitch is valued highly by Wenger.
However, last season he was one of the few experienced players to miss out on a new contract, and with just 12 months remaining on his current deal, a move away this summer looks most likely.
The former Everton man has also been linked with a return to Spain, with Athletic Bilbao said to be monitoring the situation.
