The future of Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has become the top of debate in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening after speculation linking him away was plastered over the back pages.
The story comes from Matt Barlow from Mail Online who reports that big-spending Serie A outfit Inter Milan are preparing a £20 million summer offer for Torres.
Barlow explains that the striker, who still holds the British transfer record, still has two seasons remaining on the £150,000-a-week contract he penned upon joining the Blues three years from Liverpool.
However Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is thought be on the lookout for a top-quality replacement for Torres, especially after he was caught off camera admitting that his current side lacked a world-class finisher.
Now Inter’s new owner Erick Thohir has outlined the former Atletico Madrid as he looks to revitalise his team ahead of the new season.
While seems glimpses of the Torres of old, we wouldn’t be too surprised if Chelsea let him join Inter especially if the Milan club followed up their initial interest with a offer worth over 20 million.
We’re not sure if the Spanish international has a long-term future at Stamford Bridge. We must admit that £20m sounds great value but what do you think? Let us know your thoughts below.
