It’s been another busy day in the Football Transfer Tavern and as I call last orders at the bar, Charles Perrin from The Express arrives into the bar with the transfer speculation.
Perrin suggests that Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is being targeted by AC Milan on a loan move as they seek to reignite his career.
The 31-year-old has only made eight appearances for Jose Mourinho’s team this season, with just four coming in the Premier League and that could see him departing Stamford Bridge for regular football in the transfer window.
His agent has even revealed that his client is in high demand, saying: “It’s true that he could leave Chelsea this winter.
“Several big European clubs playing in the Champions League have made enquiries and it should play out in the next 10 days or so. Michael wasn’t included in Chelsea’s list of players for European competition, so he’s free to play in the Champions League with another club.”
And it now seems that a spell at the San Siro could be on the cards as Milan look to strengthen their midfield after a disappointing start to the season in Serie A.
Our punters note that if Essien were to move to Milan where they have tended to utilise older professionals more readily in years gone by, this could boost Essien’s chances of featuring at this summer’s World Cup for Ghana in what we believe is another group of death.
Do you think that Mourinho should keep hold of Essien? Let us know your thoughts below.
