Serie A side lining up January move for Manchester United man

The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are wondering whether they will see any changes in their defence this January.

Jose Mourinho clearly does not rate Luke Shaw while Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof have all been disappointing.

According to recent reports coming out of Italy, Matteo Darmian could be about to secure a return to Serie A.

Italian media outlet Corriere Dello Sport are reporting that Matteo Darmian is a loan target for Roma in January.

Roma want to snap up Darmian on a loan deal with an obligation to buy in the summer.

With the Italy international usually either playing second fiddle to Antonio Valencia for the right back spot or playing out of position at left back, he might be tempted with a move back to his home country.

The former AC Milan, Palermo and Torino full back, who has 36 international caps to his name, has struggled to adapt to English football and has failed to live up to the lofty expectations placed on him.

The 27-year-old was linked with a move away in the summer transfer window and he could now leave in January.

Roma face competition from Juventus and AC Milan, who are also chasing Darmian.
