The Daily Star have an interesting claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern, as they note that AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong is not looking to make a move to Liverpool this summer.
The player has been linked with a move back to the Premier League, where he of course spent a successful spell with Manchester City, yet has made it perfectly clear that a move does not interest him, and he sees his future at the Serie A giants.
He noted: “I want to try and stay at Milan for another four or five years,” and as one of our punters notes, that clearly puts Liverpool out of the race for the player – and all his other suitors as well.
Some of our regulars claim over a pint that given the fact that AC Milan look like missing out on the Champions League places this term, and Liverpool are looking like getting back into Europe’s premier competition, we think that de Jong could well be making a bit of a mistake!
Liverpool are of course facing a fight to hold onto Luis Suarez, and are trying to build their squad to compete for the title again next term.
Liverpool fans. Would de Jong have made a good signing or are the Reds better off targeting other midfielders? Let us know your thoughts below.
