Drinks have been put down here at the Football Transfer Tavern as news surrounding Manchester City from Sky Sports filters through at the bar. Roberto Mancini is apparently showing interest in a Sampdoria player – even going to watch the youngster himself.
City are as we all know, more than a little bit off the pace this season and not only have there been rumours of a summer clear out but there have also been whispers of who could be coming in. Of course the club now have to seriously give some thought to the restrictions of the Financial Fair Play rules and this could well have an impact on their purchasing strategy from this point onwards.
Mancini has his eye on 19-year-old forward Mauro Icardi who is highly rated in Serie A to say the least. The Italian manager even took the step of going to watch the player himself on Sunday and what a time for the manager to turn up.
Icardi scored a cracker of a goal and was instrumental in the game showing exactly why he has caught the eye of not only Mancini but a host of other top managers. When asked about the forward, the manager noted: “He scored a great goal and moved very well and I must say I liked him.”
Of course City do have a vacancy up top now given the departure of Mario Balotelli to AC Milan and could look to bring in a young player rather than a big name to fill the void.
