Shaka Hislop: David de Gea will try to follow Paul Pogba out of the exit door

Is Paul Pogba angling for a move away from Manchester United this summer? You would certainly think so after his recent words.

“I am thinking of this: To have a new challenge somewhere else,” the Frenchman was quoted as saying (as per BBC Sport).

And team-mate David de Gea could try to follow him out of Old Trafford, that is according to Shaka Hislop. Find out what exactly he has had to say in this edition of our Pundit’s Choice feature.

“You almost have to remind yourself that this is Manchester United we are talking about,” the former West Ham goalkeeper said on ESPN FC (via Daily Express).

“One of the biggest clubs, one of the biggest brands in world football. Yet somehow, so far in this transfer window, underwhelming as you say. And their fortunes, it seems, lies with three players.

“One who probably has a deal sorted out with Inter Milan [Romelu Lukaku] and the two others in David de Gea and Paul Pogba who, in my opinion, I think De Gea’s thinking the exact same as Pogba – ‘get me out of here’.”

As things stand, though, with little options currently out there, it is hard to imagine de Gea pushing for a move.

There were some noises being made about a potential switch to Paris Saint-Germain but, with the French giants looking to tie up a deal for AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma (as per Daily Mail), that now seems unlikely.

Elsewhere, practically all of the other European heavyweights already have quality shot-stoppers between the sticks. In Spain, for example, Barcelona and Real Madrid have the likes of Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Thibaut Courtois to call upon.

Valued at £81m and £49.5m respectively by Transfermarkt, these are not two average goalkeepers we are talking about here.

Bearing that in mind, there is surely nowhere for de Gea to go this summer.
