Southampton have been dealt an injury blow as their players have all joined up with their respective international squads.
There is always a concern when players join up with their nations and club’s will always be hopeful that they return without any issues.
First, Alex McCarthy had to sit out of England training on Tuesday and now it appears another of their players has had to miss a session.
It is understood that he had picked up the knock during the Saints defeat to Chelsea at the weekend, although Martin O’Neill is confident he will be available for the Nations League tie with Denmark at the weekend.
“It’s not that sore, it is just puffed up. It may be a matter of resting it for a day or two. But he thinks that he should be okay,” he told the Daily Echo.
Southampton will be hopeful that his ankle injury is not too serious and he will be able to return to the St. Mary’s Stadium in good condition.
The Saints have struggled to get results this season and Hughes will be keen to have the whole of his squad available as games start to come thick and fast.
Southampton are in a desperate position to win points in the Premier League already, and with games against Bournemouth and Newcastle United coming up, they will view them as an ideal chance to turn things around.
