Having already secured the services of Phil Jagielka and Luke Freeman for the upcoming Premier League campaign, Sheffield United are now closing in on signing Callum Robinson from Preston North End.
Having been granted permission to leave Preston’s training camp in Ireland in order to complete a move, Robinson is now set to hold talks with United to discuss personal terms before undergoing a medical at Bramall Lane.
A star performer for Preston last season, Robinson fired in 13 goals in 28 appearances whilst also providing three assists for his team-mates (via WhoScored) as Alex Neil’s side finished 12th in the Championship standings.
Since joining the Lilywhites from Aston Villa on a permanent deal in 2016, the 24-year-old has established himself as a key member of their squad, featuring on 127 occasions (via Soccerbase) in all competitions.
Firing in a total of 31 goals during this period, Robinson could provide a viable attacking outlet for the Blades if he does commit to a switch in the coming days.
As well as being able to operate on either wing, the Republic of Ireland international also has notable experience of leading the line having done so on 66 occasions during his career (via Transfermarkt).
Given that Robinson is an extremely versatile player, Chris Wilder could benefit considerably from having him in his squad as he could provide competition to the likes of Enda Stevens, George Baldock, David McGoldrick and Billy Sharp.
Furthermore, when you factor in that only four players were able to better the forward’s average WhoScored rating of 7.09 last season for the Blades during the previous campaign in the Championship, he may very well end up being an upgrade on their existing options.
