Chris Wilder says that he will give John Fleck, David McGoldrick and Oliver McBurnie “every opportunity” to prove their fitness for Sheffield United’s encounter against Arsenal on Monday, reported by the Star journalist James Shield on Twitter.
The trio have all picked up minor injuries which kept them out of international fixtures for Scotland and the Republic of Ireland recently.
McGoldrick has missed the Blades’ last three Premier League matches with injury, as well as their League Cup defeat against Sunderland (via Transfermarkt).
There were hopes that he would be fit enough to play some part for the Republic of Ireland in their recent Euro 2020 qualifiers against Georgia and Switzerland, but he didn’t quite make it. However, Wilder is hopeful that he will be in contention for the Arsenal game.
As for Fleck and McBurnie, they have both returned from international duty with Scotland having picked up minor injuries.
The latter didn’t even manage to play for Steve Clarke’s side and returned to Sheffield prior to the Scots’ doubleheader against Russia and San Marino.
All three are important players for Sheffield United, and they will hope that they can have all of them available for the visit of the Gunners.
Fleck is arguably the most vital of the trio, he has been an ever-present for the Blades for the last three years playing 146 times, scoring eight goals and providing 39 assists in that time (via Transfermarkt).
Lys Mousset, Callum Robinson, Billy Sharp and Leon Clarke are all in the squad and fit to play, so their absences would be ably covered.
Sheffield United fans, which of these three players do you want to see fit for the Arsenal game the most? And do you fancy your chances of getting a result against the Gunners? Let us know your thoughts below…
