Sheffield United fans have been left stunned that centre-back Jack O'Connell was once again overlooked by England manager Gareth Southgate.

The 25-year-old was not selected in the latest Three Lions squad as they prepare to take on Bulgaria and the Czech Republic in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Blades supporters feel that the defender has been hard done by, given his outstanding performances for the club in recent years.

Indeed, he was a regular as they gained promotion from the Championship last season, starting 41 of their 46 league fixtures and chipping in with three goals and four assists (via Transfermarkt).

He has also been an two clean sheets.

However, alongside regulars Harry Maguire and Joe Gomez it was Tyrone Mings, Michael Keane and Fikayo Tomori who got the nod from Southgate.

The inclusions of the latter three on that list ahead of O'Connell have baffled Blades fans. They argue that their player outperformed Mings in the Championship last season, and that he has also helped Sheffield United to a more solid start in the Premier League this season than Keane has at Everton.

As for Tomori, they say that he has only been selected because he is playing for a top-six club in Chelsea.

Here are what some Sheffield United fans have had to say following the news that O'Connell had not made the England squad...
