Sheffield United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has been called up to the senior England squad for their UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
The 22-year-old has replaced Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton in the squad, after he pulled out with an injury he sustained against Norwich City.
Gareth Southgate has made the decision to include the Manchester United loanee after he has impressed in his debut season in the Premier League. Indeed he has helped Sheffield United claim nine points from eight games in the top flight, and been integral in them conceding just seven goals – only Liverpool have conceded fewer than that.
It represents the first time in his career that Henderson has been called into the Three Lions first team, but he has previously represented his country at under-16, under-17, under-20 and under-21 level.
Naturally, Henderson was delighted with the news and he took to Twitter to express his happiness. He posted: “This is what dreams are made of… it’s a dream come true to receive my first @England senior call up!!”
But he wasn’t the only one buzzing about his call-up, with a huge amount of Sheffield United fans sending their congratulations to the shot stopper on social media.
Here is what some Blades fans had to say after hearing that Henderson was in the England squad…

Instead of sitting in the reserves, you’ve gone away and done the hard graft. Fully deserved. Will be No.1 for the next WC!
