Chris Wilder has been one of the stand-out managers in English football in recent years.
Will Sheffield United be able to keep a hold of Chris Wilder?
The 52-year-old has done an absolutely outstanding job at his hometown club Sheffield United. He took over when they were entering their sixth season in League One, but changed their fortunes immediately and guided them to the title that term with 100 points (Sky Sports).
He then established them in the Championship the following season, before guiding them to automatic promotion from the second tier in his third season in charge (BBC Sport), meaning he had achieved an impressive two promotions in three years.
Wilder is now upsetting the odds with the Blades in the Premier League, after 11 games he has already led them to 16 points and they currently sit in sixth place in the top flight (BBC Sport).
A major reason for his success is his revolutionary style of play. He has implemented a 3-5-2 formation at Bramall Lane which sees the two outside centre-backs joining in attacks (medium.com), and it is a system which most other teams are struggling to deal with.
As a result of Wilder’s success, pundit Tony Cascarino has recently suggested on talkSPORT that he should be considered for the biggest managerial roles in England, including the Arsenal job.
However, several Sheffield United fans disagree and believe that Wilder wouldn’t suit the Gunners due to a number of different reasons.
Here is why some Blades supporters don’t believe that Arsenal and Wilder are a match…
It works for CW & the Blades because of the things that connect throughout the city & club & the love for him. You can’t recreate that anywhere else. That’s why he needs to stay

He is good enough but the ego of players at clubs like that now , they wouldn’t give him a chance. “Get my agent on the phone , he’s just shouted at me” 😭😭😭😭.

As a Blade, I love Wilder, but he has the advantage of not managing big egos and ‘stars’. Wilder calls the shots. Ollie McBurney currently not quite on his game, so Wilder doesn’t play him, despite him being our most expensive player.

Sometimes the stars all fall into line, that’s what is happening now at Bramall Lane. The connection between fans, club, management & players right now, well what can I say, “some things money just can’t buy” !!!!!

Won’t ever happen because they want a ‘name’ not an actual competent manager
