Sheffield United: Fans rave about John Egan’s performance against Watford

Sheffield United secured another point away from home on Saturday, drawing 0-0 against Watford at Vicarage Road.
Will Sheffield United avoid the drop?
Yes

No

The Blades have made a solid start to life in the Premier League since being promoted last season, particularly on the road where they remain unbeaten so far having also taken points from AFC Bournemouth, Everton and Chelsea.
One of the main reasons for their strong start is their defensive record. Indeed, the South Yorkshire side have conceded just seven goals in eight matches, keeping three clean sheets (via Transfermarkt).
Only Liverpool have conceded fewer goals than Chris Wilder’s side, and the linchpin in their backline has been Republic of Ireland international John Egan.
The 26-year-old plays at the centre of the Blades’ back five and whilst his fellow centre-backs Jack O’Connell and Chris Basham often get forward to support attacks, it is Egan who stays back and keeps things tight.
Against Watford the Irishman was once again pivotal in Sheffield United keeping a clean sheet. He made three clearances, two successful tackles, one interception and blocked one shot in the 90 minutes, whilst also playing 12 accurate long balls (via WhoScored).
His performance had supporters lavishing him with praise, with many giving him plenty of credit for Sheffield United’s outstanding defensive record this season.
Here is what some of them were saying on Twitter…
