Sheffield United trio John Egan, Enda Stevens and Callum Robinson have all been called up into Mick McCarthy’s 24-man Republic of Ireland squad for their October international matches.
Is Chris Wilder too harsh on his teams sometimes?
They will be involved as the Irish face two important UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers against Georgia and Switzerland.
All three have been regulars for the Blades so far in the Premier League this season, helping the newly-promoted side pick up eight points from seven matches.
Stevens is unable to play in their first game against Georgia due to suspension, but having established himself as Ireland’s first-choice left-back of late, starting six of their last seven matches, it is likely that he will play against Switzerland.
With another Blades player in David McGoldrick missing out on a place due to his recent injury troubles, fellow striker Robinson could start up front.
Some of Sheffield United’s supporters are happy to see that the trio are all getting international recognition, although some of them were keen to point out that they hope they all return to their club without any injuries.
Here is what some Blades fans have said following the news that Egan, Stevens and Robinson have been called up for the Republic of Ireland…
Congratulations.. do not repeat DO NOT get injured.
