Four of Sheffield United’s players have been called up for the Republic of Ireland’s upcoming November fixtures (via fai.ie).
David McGoldrick, John Egan, Enda Stevens and Callum Robinson have all been included in Mick McCarthy’s initial 39-man squad.
But now that the striker is fully fit he has been recalled straight back into the party, and he will hope to pick up where he left off having netted in his previous appearance for his country, a 1-1 draw against Switzerland (via Transfermarkt).
The Irish play two matches in the next international break, a friendly against New Zealand before a Euro 2020 qualifier against Denmark.
It is a crucial period for McCarthy’s team, who can secure automatic qualification for next summer’s tournament if they beat the Danes at the Aviva Stadium (BBC Sport).
The final squad is expected to be confirmed early next week.
All four call-ups are thoroughly deserved, given that they have all played a significant role in Sheffield United’s excellent start to life in the Premier League.
Egan and Stevens, in particular, have been key players for the Blades, who have the joint second-best defensive record in the top flight with just eight goals conceded in 10 games (via BBC Sport).
McCarthy will hope that the two can remain as solid when they take on Denmark in November.
