Having initially joined Sheffield United as a triallist earlier this month (via BBC Sport), Ravel Morrison is now set to extend his stay with the club.
According to the Star, the midfielder is to remain at Bramall Lane for at least another week after impressing the Blades’ coaching staff during the club’s training camp in Portugal.
Although Morrison has yet to be offered a permanent deal by United, manager Chris Wilder praised the impact that Morrison has had in an interview with the Star, admitting: “He’s been really good.
“We’ve enjoyed him being with us. We’re looking to explore that one and see how it goes.
“But he’s impressed everybody.
“The recruitment, that’s where we are and we sometimes have to go down that road.”
Currently a free agent after being released by Swedish side Ostersunds FK in June (via Transfermarkt), Morrison has had a storied career since making his debut as a teenager for Manchester United in 2010 (via BBC Sport).
An unquestionably gifted player, after signing him for West Ham United, then-boss Sam Allardyce told the Telegraph in 2013 that Sir Alex Ferguson described the midfielder as: “A brilliant footballer.
“Brilliant ability. Top-class ability.”
Yet despite his talents, Morrison has gone on to represent seven clubs in the past six years (via Transfermarkt) with his latest spell seeing him make just six appearances for Ostersunds in the Allsvenskan.
Although signing Morrison would be a somewhat of a risk for the Blades, Wilder has shown he can make deals like this work, making David McGoldrick a key player after his free transfer from Ipswich.
Brought in on a free transfer in 2018 following a successful trial (via BBC Sport), the forward went on to score 15 goals in the second-tier as the club achieved promotion to the Premier League, averaging an impressive WhoScored rating of 7.09.
