Alan Shearer has selected a trio of Sheffield United representatives in his Premier League Team of the Season so far.
The ex-England striker picked both Dean Henderson and John Egan in his list of 11 players and also selected Chris Wilder as the manager (via @SheffieldUnited).
Shearer’s team has been picked based on performances in the first 12 matches of the 2019/20 Premier League season, and it is no surprise to see plenty of representation from Sheffield United.
After being promoted from the Championship, the Blades have taken the top flight by storm and currently sit in fifth place in the table with 17 points (BBC Sport).
They have taken points away from home against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Everton, whilst also beating Arsenal at Bramall Lane.
Both Henderson and Egan have been regulars in the Blades’ line-up, starting all 12 of their league fixtures so far (Transfermarkt).
Obviously Henderson is the sole goalkeeper named in the team, whilst Egan was selected as part of a back four which also includes Liverpool duo Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson and Leicester centre-back Caglar Soyuncu.
All three certainly deserve this recognition for the brilliant work they have done so far this term.
Both Henderson and Egan have been crucial in the Blades’ excellent defensive record, helping them to five clean sheets so far and conceding just nine goals which is the second fewest in the league behind Leicester City (BBC Sport).
As for Wilder, he has masterminded Sheffield United’s outstanding start to the campaign. Plenty thought that they would finish rock bottom this season including The Guardian, so to have them sat in a Europa League qualification spot after 12 games shows just how well he is doing at Bramall Lane.
Sheffield United fans, do you agree with Alan Shearer’s picks or are there other Blades players who you think should have been included? Let us know in the comments below…
