Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has confirmed that he has spoken to the club’s owners about a new contract for John Lundstram (via @JamesShield1).
The 52-year-old recently spent some time in Dubai with the Blades’ top brass and it appears that the midfielder’s future was on the agenda.
Lundstram has been a regular for the Blades so far this season, starting in each of their opening 12 Premier League fixtures (Transfermarkt).
He is out of contract at the end of the campaign (Transfermarkt), but it appears that manager Chris Wilder has made it a priority that they agree fresh terms with the 25-year-old.
Speaking at his press conference ahead of their fixture against Manchester United, Wilder confirmed that he has spoken to the club’s hierarchy about a new deal for Lundstram.
“The meeting I had with the owners, that was part of that [Lundstram’s contract situation],” Wilder said (via BBC).
“John is one of a number of players that we want to get tied down for the next few years.”
Getting Lundstram tied down needs to be an immediate priority for Sheffield United, so it is good news for them that Wilder has discussed a new deal for him with their owners.
The midfielder has adapted to life in the Premier League terrifically well, scoring three goals and providing one assist already (Transfermarkt).
It has been some turnaround for the ex-Everton man, who played just 10 times in the Championship last season (Transfermarkt).
But he has become a key player for them this term, so tying him down would be excellent business. Losing him for free would be an absolute travesty for the club.
