Without wanting to tempt fate, Saturday evening could be a very lively one for all those associated with Sheffield United.
Following an incredible Easter weekend which saw the Blades gain a three-point lead over their automatic promotion rivals Leeds United, a victory against Ipswich Town should be enough to guarantee a return to the Premier League after 12 years away.
If the Yorkshire-based outfit do indeed secure a top-two finish in the Championship this season, they will owe a lot of gratitude to one of their unsung heroes.
Whilst the likes of David McGoldrick, Billy Sharp and Oliver Norwood have been grabbing all the headlines this year, Mark Duffy has arguably been equally as impressive in the heart of United’s midfield.
Since joining the club in 2016, the former Birmingham City ace has made over 100 appearances for Chris Wilder’s side and was an instrumental figure in their League One title win two years ago.
A fantastic player who is able to control the tempo of play, Duffy has gone from strength to strength this season and delivered it really mattered against Nottingham Forest on April 19th.
Having entered the clash three points behind Leeds, United simply could not afford to slip-up against the Reds yet it looked like they were heading for their third consecutive draw in the Championship after a goalless 45 minutes at Bramall Lane.
However, following Yohan Benalouane’s sending off for fouling McGoldrick, Duffy stepped up to the mark by curling a beautiful strike past Costel Pantilimon. With Forest’s resistance broken, Enda Stevens secured a vital three points for the hosts by firing in their second of the game.
Duffy’s brilliance during this particular clash saw the £450k-rated ace take his goal tally for the year to six whilst his creative flair has also seen him provide seven assists for his team-mates (via Transfermarkt).
Despite being in the twilight of his career at the age of 33, the midfielder has shown no signs of slowing down in recent months and could be a menace in the Premier League if the Blades do indeed secure promotion in the next two fixtures.
What do you think United fans? How impressed have you been with Duffy this season? Does he get enough praise for the impact that he has on your team? Let us know below.
