Sheffield United: Fans can’t understand why Jack O’Connell wasn’t called up by England

Sheffield United centre-back Jack O’Connell has not been included in the latest England squad ahead of their UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers against Montenegro and Kosovo (via @England).

The centre-back has been in fine form this season, helping Sheffield United to five clean sheets in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt).

However, Gareth Southgate has instead opted to select Harry Maguire, Tyrone Mings, John Stones, Joe Gomez and Fikayo Tomori as his central defenders (@England).

O’Connell can certainly count himself unlucky, given that he is a vital part of a defence which has conceded the joint-fewest amount of goals in the Premier League this term (BBC Sport).

The former Brentford man’s teammates Dean Henderson and John Lundstram have also missed out on the squad despite their excellent recent form.

Most Sheffield United fans cannot understand why O’Connell continues to be overlooked by England, with many suggesting that he would be a better option than some of the names in the current squad.
