Sheffield United: Fans delighted following Dean Henderson’s England call-up

Sheffield United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has been called into the England squad for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Montenegro and Kosovo (@SheffieldUnited).

The Manchester United loanee wasn’t initially selected by Gareth Southgate, but just as he did back in October, he has replaced Tom Heaton who has once again been forced to withdraw through injury (BBC Sport).

Henderson has been outstanding this season and a key figure in the Blades’ impressive start to life back in the Premier League.

He has kept five clean sheets in 12 appearances to date, the joint-most alongside Manchester City stopper Ederson and Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel (premierleague.com).

Added to that, he and Sheffield United have conceded just nine goals so far this term, with only Leicester shipping fewer than that with eight (BBC Sport).

The 23-year-old will be competing with regular Three Lions number one Jordan Pickford and Burnley’s Nick Pope for the goalkeeping jersey.

The Everton stopper is currently the undisputed first-choice, but has come under criticism at times recently, so the Blades man might fancy his chances of displacing him with some good performances in training over the next fortnight.

Blades fans are delighted that Henderson has once again been given international recognition, although most still believe that he should have been one of the three goalkeepers initially selected. Here is what some had to say following the news breaking on Twitter…
