Sheffield United: Fans react to Barry Bannan’s Blades admission

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has admitted that he hopes Sheffield United are relegated from the Premier League (via Sheffield Star).

The Scottish international has been at Hillsborough since the 2015/16 season (Transfermarkt) and has therefore seen the Blades come up from League One and then leapfrog the Owls up into the Premier League.

Will Sheffield United be able to keep a hold of Chris Wilder?

No

Chris Wilder’s side have made a superb start to life in the top flight, sitting in fifth place after 12 games with 17 points (BBC Sport).

And Bannan has admitted that it is hurting him to see Wednesday’s fierce rivals exceeding expectations in the Premier League.

“It’s not nice seeing them doing well, but you’ve got to give them credit where credit’s due. Hopefully this time next year we’re the ones up there and they’re back down here,” the Scotsman said (via Sheffield Star).

His comments shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise given the intensity of the rivalry in the Steel City.

Plenty of Sheffield United fans have been reacting to what Bannan has had to say, with most taking a dig back at the midfielder. Here is what some had to say…
