Sheffield United duo John Fleck and Oliver McBurnie have been called up by Scotland for their upcoming international fixtures (via @SheffieldUnited).
Steve Clarke’s side are set to take on Cyprus and Kazakhstan in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Both players were named in the Scotland squad back in October, although McBurnie was forced to withdraw before a ball was kicked with a minor injury (The Herald).
He has though played a part in their qualifying campaign so far, starting games against Kazakhstan and more recently Russia (Transfermarkt).
Despite failing to score in his eight appearances for his country so far (Transfermarkt), Clarke has opted to give the former Swansea City striker another chance.
As for Fleck, he made his Scotland debut against Russia back in October (Sheffield Star) but was forced to miss their second game of that international break against San Marino due to injury.
He will be hoping for another opportunity to play in the coming games.
There is absolutely no doubt at all that Fleck deserves his call-up to the Scottish national team.
The 28-year-old has been in terrific form in the Premier League for Sheffield United, and was particularly impressive in their most recent outing against Burnley.
Indeed he scored his first goal of the season against the Clarets, whilst also playing one key pass, completing three successful dribbles, making one clearance and one successful tackle, earning a WhoScored rating of 8.31.
The inclusion of McBurnie is perhaps a little more surprising for a couple of different reasons. Firstly, as already mentioned he has failed to score in any of his appearances for Scotland so far (Transfermarkt).
Added to that, he has also been out of form for Sheffield United and was dropped from the starting 11 recently. He hasn’t scored for the Blades in his last seven league appearances and has been forced to make do for a place on the bench in their last three matches (Transfermarkt).
