It’s never easy as a side outside of the Premier League when you’re drawn to face one of the top flight’s ‘big six’ away from home in the domestic cups, and most sides are just keen to avoid getting a spanking. Sheffield Wednesday were in that position yesterday away at Stamford Bridge, and it doesn’t help when you’ve got players falling short of expectations.

The player in question was the Dutch midfielder Joey Pelupessy. The 25-year-old had a shocker at Stamford Bridge on a day where it looked like the occasion got the better of him. Had the defensive midfielder look a little more solid he could have helped at least keep his side at least maintain a rearguard action and frustrate Chelsea whilst looking to hit them on the break.
That never happened though, and when Wednesday opted to hook the midfielder for the returning Fernando Forestieri it was evident that the fans were delighted to see the back of the Dutchman. It’s not the first time that the former Dutch U20 international has let them down on the big stage though, as his display yesterday reminded plenty of fans of when he let them down in the 2017 playoff final in their defeat to Hull City.

The Owls will be hoping Pelupessy will be left out of their side when they face Ipswich next week as they try and get over his shocking efforts in their 3-0 loss.
