Middle Eastern Sheikhs are preparing a raid to land a very weighty £7m Brazilian Midfielder. However, it’s not Manchester City sheikhs that are chasing him.
The sheikh in question is Qatari, Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani and no, he’s not offering a Qatari passport for the 2022 team but a place in La Liga with CF Malaga.
The midfielder in question?
Former Arsenal and Brazilian international, Julio Baptista.
It was reported in the Andalucían press today that Baptista is growing disenchanted with life at Roma, doesn’t have much to do with Claudio Ranieri and would be interested in a return to La Liga.
New coach, Manuel Pelligrini, certainly sees the 29-year old playmaker as the stature of player needed to get Malaga out of the relegation mire and up nearer the top end of the table, where the new owners would certainly have expected them to be.
Baptista would certainly not be averse to a move to Malaga, despite their lowly position. He is rumoured to have a good relationship with the clubs Sports Director, Antonio Fernandez, while the £7m transfer fee and Baptista’s wage demands would be a mere drop in the ocean for the Qatari owner.
So could ‘the Beast from Brazil’ be heading to the Costa Del Sol?
