Here at the Football Transfer Tavern Arsenal have cropped up in many a conversation today and the Daily Express have made a claim about one of their former players sensationally returning to the Emirates Stadium in the summer.
The North London club witnessed the departure of Alex Song to Barcelona last summer but after the midfielder was voted the second worst signing in Spain after Luka Modric who after his goal midweek must have taken himself off the top spot – the Cameroon international could be about to swap his brief Spanish stint for his home at the Emirates Stadium after a disappointing move to the Camp Nou.
There are a few nods of approval from the Gunners fans in the tavern who have been reeling from the fact that Arsene Wenger didn’t really replace his physical presence in the middle of the park this term with Mikel Arteta having to fill in in the defensive midfield role. Song may have cost the Catalan giants £15 million but he has struggled to break through to the starting eleven consistently and has been simply dire during his fleeting appearances.
At only 25 years of age and someone who has proven that he can cut it in the Premier League, Wenger may well consider buying the player back for considerably less that he sold him for less than a year ago.
Arsenal are not the only club sniffing around however as Paris Saint Germain are making eyes at Song but given that he spent seven years at Arsenal, the Gunners may feel they are the prime candidates to be able to lure him back.
Could Song be set for a sensational return to Arsenal? Rate this rumour below.
