Alexis Sanchez has booked himself a place in the history books as one of Manchester United’s worst ever signings, and the nightmare does not look to be ending any time soon.
Manchester United have fallen apart again after what looked a promising start to the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era, and all fingers are being pointed in the direction of the club’s star players as the antagonists of United’s pathetic collapse. Alexis Sanchez, the Red Devils’ highest-paid player, understandably bears the brunt of most of their frustrations.
Take a moment to yourself; block out all the stresses of normal life, breath slowly and think; concentrate as hard as you can, and you may, just may, remember a time when Alexis Sanchez was a good player. You don’t? Well, that does not surprise us one bit.
The Chilean’s rendition of “Glory, Glory Man United!” may have hit all the right notes in his cringe-worthy introduction video and fans were understandably excited if not a little perplexed. However, a year on and countless shocking, and we mean shocking, performances later, Alexis Sanchez has been playing to a tune that sounds like nails on a chalkboard featuring white noise, fox screams and crying babies.
Earning a reported (as per the Daily Mail) £500,000 a week following his free transfer in January 2018, the club may as well have created the world’s largest bonfire and chucked Sanchez, his dogs, Ed Woodward and the Glazer family on top and voodoo danced around it in the hope of improving their fortunes. Indeed, we would argue that this would just as effective as the former Arsenal man has been, if not more.
Over a year into his time at Old Trafford and Sanchez has managed a pathetic five goals and nine assists in 45 appearances. He is frustratingly wasteful and has spent prolonged periods of time on the sideline due to “injury”.
With summer coming up and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer repeatedly claiming that many players will be sacrificed (though we are not sure whether to believe him) is it curtains for Sanchez?
Manchester United fans, is Sanchez your worst ever? Would you like to hold onto him next season and hope (again) he comes good? Join the discussion by commenting below…
