‘Should never start’, ‘He’s finished’ – Man United fans on Twitter slate star following Burnley draw

The Manchester United fans were fuming in the Transfer Tavern last night after their side struggled to a 2-2 draw against Burnley at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho’s second season at United has not gone according to plan for the Portuguese man so far. With just 20 fixtures played in the Premier League, the title already looks set to be wrapped in the blue and white ribbons of their noisy neighbours Manchester City. Although City’s dominance at the summit of the English top-flight is truly extraordinary in the context of Premier League history, it is fair to say that United’s shortcomings have enabled them to solidify their dominance.

Plenty of United’s star players have failed to live up to expectations this season and there seems to be a tense atmosphere building between fans, players and manager at Old Trafford as a consequence.

Romelu Lukaku has taken enough criticism in the last two weeks to last your average player an entire season, but that is to be expected whilst playing for a club of such stature.

However, the United supporters are beginning to fire their harsh words at other attacking stars in the last few days, as Marcus Rashford and now Zlatan Ibrahimovic have become targets for criticism.

Mourinho opted to start with Ibrahimovic in the number 10 role against Burnley yesterday, but he later withdrew the Swede at half-time and brought on Jesse Lingard to replace him.

And plenty of the supporters on Twitter were furious with Ibrahimovic’s lacklustre performance against the Clarets in an unfamiliar role.

Here’s what the Red Devils had to say about his performance…
