Hailed as the King of White Hart Lane, Ledley King has been a fan favourite at Spurs since his career started at Tottenham 16 years ago where he has been captain since 2005; which shows how important he is to the club.
But the 31 year old has been extremely unlucky with injuries which saw him play only 23 games last season. The player has had many operations on his knee and as a result does not train with the squad at all. Some people say that this has shown in his performances and as his fall from sensational performances accelerates, many feel that it is time for the King to give up his crown and pass on his captaincy.
The Daily Mail are reporting however that Ledley will be offered a one year contract to stay at Tottenham despite his injuries. With the transfer of Vertonghen expected to go through within a few days and Spurs having around 6 centre backs, does King have a place at Spurs? With Naughton, Gallas, Dawson, Kaboul, Bassong and Nelsen making up the numbers, is it unlikely that all 6 will remain with the club with Nelsen and Bassong expected to depart.
The newspaper is also reporting that Tottenham are not willing to continue to pay the Tottenham skipper his £70,000 a week which has caused a halt in contract talks. But, with Tottenham being a part in Ledley’s heart and Ledley being a part of the foundations of the Tottenham success, it will take a lot for King to walk out on his beloved club.
