Should Van Gaal drop Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney?

rooney777Much has been talked about in the Transfer Tavern over the past few months about whether Wayne Rooney is given to much criticism or whether actually his is an under achiever, and a long way past his best days.

After smashing Sir Bobby Charlton’s England goalscoring record in a recent home game at Wembley, Rooney did well to silence a few doubters – but it seems that silence has not lasted long.

Despite these remarkable and historical exploits for the National team, Wayne Rooney has struggled hitting the ground running for his club side this term, and United fans here in the Tavern are seriously growing restless as each week passes.

With Martial the world’s most expensive teenager, and after scoring three goals in his first two games, many feel he should continue to be given the leading role in the United attack. Will this be at the expense of Wayne Rooney, the captain?

Hardcore Manchester United fan, Dave, had his say ¬†here in the Tavern: “Rooney simply has to be dropped for the next game, he was non-existent the whole match against Southampton… He seriously sees past his best playing days now!”
