The Aston Villa fans are feeling apprehensive in the Transfer Tavern ahead of their semi-final play-off fixture against Middlesbrough on Saturday evening.
Steve Bruce’s side travel to the Riverside Stadium this weekend for a fixture which has the potential to make or break their season. The Villans faithful propping up our bar are desperate to see their side return to the top-flight after just a two year absence and, although they are not favourites to win the play-offs, the supporters are quietly confident they can go all the way this season.
The hierarchy at Aston Villa will be making separate provisional plans ahead of the new season based on whether the club succeed or fail in their promotion bid. With the future unclear, it’s difficult to make great strides in the transfer market, however, one player who the club should be targeting regardless of whether they win promotion or not is Juan Foyth (valued at £4.5 million by Transfermarkt) of Tottenham Hotspur.
The Argentinian centre-back joined the club from Estudiantes last summer after impressing as a teenager in South America, but so far he has failed to break into the first-team in North London. Murmurs coming out of Spurs suggest that Mauricio Pochettino regards him as a future first-team regular, so although a permanent deal is out of the question, a loan deal could be mutually beneficial for all parties concerned.
Foyth is only 20-years-old, but he will be disappointed with his lack of opportunity so far this season. At Aston Villa, Foyth should be able to establish himself as a first-team regular and gain the valuable experience he needs to realise the full extent of his huge potential.
Tottenham’s rising talent would be a valuable asset to the club in either a promotion bid or in a relegation scrap next season, so Steve Bruce should certainly be proposing a loan deal to Pochettino this summer in order to bolster his defensive options.
