If Newcastle make any more signing this summer, it won’t involve much money from Mike Ashley’s pocket.
Rafa Benitez has been desperate for the club to bring in some quality to the squad but as of yet, he has only been given a loanee in Kenedy, the free agent signing of Ki Sung-yeung, and the permanent £3.6 million deal for Martin Dubravka.
Mike Ashley has told Rafa Benitez that the club will have to sell before they can bring anyone in, and therefore any new deal will but on the lower end of the price scale.
With that in mind, Spanish news outlet, Estadio Deportivo, the club are mulling over a deal for Deportivo La Coruna defender, Fabian Schar.
After Deportivo La Coruna were relegated last season, the Spanish club are now looking to offload the Swiss defender.
With Benitez’s budget reserved only for low price deals, a deal for Schar may well be on the cards as according to the report, the defender has a £3 million release clause in his contract. While Benitez already has two solid centrebacks in Jamaal Lascelles and Florian Lejeune, with Schar only having a £3 million release clause, he would provide a brilliant low price backup.
Furthermore, with Chancel Mbemba heavily linked with a move away, leaving only three centre-backs for Benitez to call upon, a cheap deal for Schar makes sense.
The 26-year-old played 25 times in the league for Deportivo and still hasn’t reached his peak years.
Rafa Benitez may just have a potential star on his hands if he can get this deal done.
