The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Jurgen Klopp to continue to improve his team this summer. The Reds have been a steady upward trajectory over the last year or two, and with major names like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk already at the club, it’s fair to say that the future is looking very good indeed.
Naturally, though, the Reds will need to get even better this summer if they are to keep pace with their Premier League rivals, and that is why reports from Sport Bild earlier this week linking the club with a move for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner went down so well amongst our resident Reds.
Klopp is said to be a big fan of Werner, and whilst a move is not close to completion, it will come as no surprise to hear that the Anfield faithful are desperate for him to move to Anfield.
Our landlord recently polled fans on this very topic, with one simple question: should Liverpool sign him this summer? Liverpool fans responded in their droves, and Werner is clearly a very popular man.
A whopping 80% of polled fans are eager to see Werner swap Germany for Merseyside, and it’s easy to see why.
He bagged a remarkable 21 league goals last season, whilst he has also bagged 11 this year. He’s a natural in front of goal, and though he’s young, he has proven his quality over the last two years.
Firmino’s presence will likely have had an impact on voters, with some fans clearly convinced that the Brazilian is enough on his own in the attack. However, it must be noted that whilst they share a position, their roles are very different. Firmino is more of a 9 and a half – often dropping deep to pick up the ball and assist the players around him. Werner, on the other hand, is purely a goalscorer, and so they could certainly work well in tandem.
Whether Liverpool are able, or indeed whether they even try to, sign him remains to be seen – but it’s pretty clear that the fans are behind the prospect of a deal.
