‘Sign him up’ – Man United fans urge club to sign Wigan’s £1.35m-rated FA Cup hero

The Manchester United fans were absolutely delighted in the Transfer Tavern last night after they watched their local-rivals crash out of the FA Cup at the 5th round stage after losing 1-0 against Wigan Athletic.

The Red Devils propping up our bar in the tavern have become extremely concerned by the level of City’s dominance so far this season. Until Wigan ended City’s quadruple dreams last night, the United supporters had feared that the current City team could eclipse their historic treble winning season of 1999, so Wigan’s victory was naturally greeted with absolute delight by our punters clad in red and white.

Like all great FA Cup ties, there was a real fairy tale feel to the result yesterday evening, particularly due to the fact that Will Grigg scored the winner – the same man who shot to national fame after Wigan supporters created a chant for the 26-year-old based on Gala’s 1997 Electro-Pop anthem ‘Freed from desire’.

Grigg (valued at £1.35 million by Transfermarkt) was forced to feed off scraps for the most-part last night, but he was alive to the opportunity when Kyle Walker foolishly allowed the ball to run in behind City’s defence, and following a lung-bursting run he eventually managed to place the ball beyond a sprawling Claudio Bravo from the edge of the area.

In the aftermath of proceedings, supporters from various clubs were waxing lyrical about Grigg’s composed finish, but the United supporters emerged as one of his greatest admirers.

The United supporters were so delighted by Grigg’s impact that they have taken to Twitter to urge for their club to bring him to Old Trafford in the near future with the hope of inflicting yet more misery on their so-called noisy neighbours.

Here’s what the United fans had to say about Will Grigg following his FA Cup heroics last night…
