Tottenham supporters were pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern over the weekend after seeing their side go down 2-0 to bitter rivals Arsenal in the North London derby at the Emirates Stadium, in turn suffering a third Premier League defeat of the campaign.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash with the Gunners off the back of successive victories over Real Madrid and Crystal Palace, but were far from their best against Arsene Wenger’s side on Saturday. First half goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez sealed a deserved and ultimately comfortable three points for the hosts, who in turn moved to within a point of their North London rivals in the Premier League table.
Subsequently, there have been many despondent Spurs fans in the Tavern in the last few days, yet they are likely to be encouraged by a recent report from Sky Sports, which details some intriguing comments from Spanish football expert Guillem Balague regarding the future of Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale.
The 28-year-old made the move to the Bernabeu from Tottenham back in 2013 after a wonderful time in North London, and he has since gone from strength to strength with 70 goals and 55 assists in 159 games for the La Liga giants, in turn helping them to three Champions League crowns, and indeed the domestic title last term.
Yet his future at the European champions has been subject to speculation for a while now, with both Manchester United and Spurs linked with a move for the Wales international, and Spanish football expert Balague has conveyed some significant information regarding the future of the forward.
When asked whether Spurs inserted a buyback clause in Bale’s contract when he left for Real four years ago, he said: ‘If there is any offer for Bale, Real have to contact Spurs and ask them if they want to match it.
‘So yes, there is a clause.’
As such, these comments are sure to intrigue our resident Tottenham supporters, who now know that their side will be very much involved in Bale’s future, but whether that means he’ll make a return to Spurs remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Injury problems have blighted Gareth Bale’s season at Real Madrid thus far, and speculation continues to build surrounding his future at the European champions.
Both Manchester United and Tottenham have been linked with a move for the Wales international, and now it seems that Spurs will in some way be involved in any proposed deal, with Spanish football expert Guillem Balague confirming that the North London outfit have a buyback clause in Bale’s contract should they wish to pursue a deal.
Whether Mauricio Pochettino’s men are convinced into participating in a deal for Bale remains to be seen, but the ball is somewhat in their court as to a possible move in the future.
