Following the departure of Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery took the reigns of what is arguably one of the hardest acts to follow in football.

The former PSG boss wasn't given the easiest starts to his Arsenal career as the Gunners had to play Chelsea and Man City in their first two games of the Premier League season. Along with the new boss, five new signings were bought in order to try and push the club back into the top four.

After such a tough start to his Arsenal tenure, Emery needs to be able to rely on a core group of players to formulate the basis of his team. One of those names who looks set to be apart of the group to help Emery bed into the club is Spain international Nacho Monreal.

In what will come as good news for the new Arsenal boss, Nacho Monreal has started talks with the club to extend his contract.

The Breakdown

Joining Arsenal from Malaga in 2013, Monreal didn't make an instant impact on the club but since his first season, the Spaniard has emerged as one of the most reliable and consistent performers at Arsenal.

Although Sead Kolasinac joined the club last year, Monreal still managed to play 28 games in the league and with the former Schalke man injured, the Spaniard has made a further three appearances in the league this season.

Despite being 32, the fact that Arsenal are willing to give Monreal a new deal shows how highly he is rated and possibly also shows that Kolasinac is going to have a tough time getting him out of the first-team.
