The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to bring in a bit more quality to the midfield. The likes of Danny Drinkwater, Tiemoue Bakayoko and even Cesc Fabregas have not delivered the desired results in recent years, and so this summer, adding another midfielder should be one of the first things on the Blues’ to-do list.
Fortunately, there are a lot of talented midfielders currently plying their trade in Europe, and our landlord thinks that Chelsea would struggle to do better than Lazio ace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who is rated at £81 million by Transfer Markt.
Milinkovic-Savic has built a steady reputation over the last year or two as one of Europe’s best young midfielders.
Much like Cesc Fabregas, the Serbian offers incredible technical quality to the midfield, and that’s what Chelsea are lacking at present. He’s a fantastic passer, dribbler and mover, and if Chelsea are looking to provide more for the players in their attack, he’d certainly fit the bill.
At 6ft2, he’s capable in the air, and his presence in the middle of the park is brilliant, which is unusual for a player of his skillset.
Furthermore, he’s also a hard-worker, and so whilst he may be effective going forward, he’ll often look to track back and be the player to steal the ball and fire it back towards the opposition’s goal.
In truth, there’s nothing he can’t do. He’s strong with the ball at his feet, he’s strong with the ball in the air, whilst he’s also solid at the back and going forward. In truth, if Chelsea were able to land him, he’d be their biggest and best signing since Eden Hazard back in 2012.
