Signing talented Brazilian striker would ease all relegation fears at Southampton this season

Southampton have come into serious money in recent weeks, with central defender Virgil van Dijk sold to Liverpool for a fee in the region of £75 million. A world record for a defender, Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino must now best decide how to utilise the windfall to turn his side’s fortunes around, with the south coast outfit out of the relegation places by goal difference alone.

Saints fans here in The Transfer Tavern are extremely nervous about the short-term future of their side, with relegation back into the Football League becoming a distinct possibility. We have heard fans moan for weeks as their side’s poor run of form continued, but with the window now open for business, Pellegrino must prove that he is the right man to turn the club’s fortunes around. Fans were glad to see the back of van Dijk, who had appeared to have lost all interest in playing for the club in the first half of the campaign, and talk surrounding where the money would be best spent has raged on long into many nights.

Our landlord managed to take a break from pulling pints to catch up with the south coast bunch, chatting about which area of the squad is in need of strengthening. Fans are keen to see a goal scoring striker brought in, and our landlord couldn’t help but suggest a move for Real Sociedad’s, Willian Jose. The Brazilian has performed remarkably for the San Sebastien side since moving to the club on a permanent deal from Deportivo Maldonado in Uruguay in 2016, amassing an impressive nineteen La Liga goals in only forty-two appearances. With seven to his name already this season, the player is looking the part once more, and would prove a wonderful addition to the squad at St Mary’s.

Goals have dried up for Manolo Gabbiadini and Shane Long in recent times, and in-form striker Charlie Austin is now out through injury. Securing Willian Jose would prove to be a statement of intent, with the 26-year-old possessing all of the required attributes to ensure Southampton retain their top-flight status this season.

Saints fans, is a top quality striker what you need to stay up? Lets us know!
