Arsenal’s summer business has been pretty successful this year, as the Gunners look to get back into the Champions League places.
There have been five new arrivals to Emery’s first-team squad so far, and it seems Arsenal’s business is pretty much complete with only a week left in the transfer market.
However, Emery has been keen to bring in another defensive midfielder and has been constantly linked with a move for Sevilla midfielder, Steven Nzonzi. Emery signed Nzonzi during his time at Sevilla and is keen to bring him to Arsenal.
Any potential deal though has hit a snag and according to RMC via Get French Football News, Arsenal are interested in signing Mainz’s Jean-Philippe Gbamin as an alternative.
Gbamin has been highlighted as one of the better talents in the Bundesliga and due to that, Mainz remain adamant that they will not allow him to go unless an enormous offer is made.
Valued at £13.5 million by Transfermarkt, Gbamin can play in the middle of defence and as a holding midfielder. While Arsenal are currently well stocked in defence with Sokratis, Mustafi, Chambers, Mavropanos, and Holding, Gbamin would be an excellent addition, especially with Mustafi’s future uncertain.
Moreover, his ability to play in midfield would also be a massive plus to Arsenal. As it stands, there’s no real physical presence in there, and having someone like Gbamin could be a vital change to Torreira, Geundouzi and Elneny.
This deal is probably coming around too late in the window but it’s one that could be a steal for Arsenal if it happens.
